Diageo, the world’s leading spirits company, has signed an exclusive agreement with Pernod-Ricard to acquire several brands from the Allied Domecq group which strengthens the chances of Pernod-Ricard prevailing over Constellation Brands which is prepared to offer 11.7 billion (700 million more than Pernod-Ricard).

In 2004, the Poitou-Charentes region produced 9.66 million hectoliters of wine for cognac, some 30% more than in 2003 (7.44 million hectoliters). Last year the amount of wine produced reached 622,000 hectoliters (+42% compared to 2003). Rosés and red wines account for 408,000 hectoliters.
