25 août 2004
The Pineau des Charentes committee has suggested to its members that the question be raised, during its forthcoming assembly on 31 August, of halting the duty protest which has been in force for the last two years. The committee’s producers have been calling for several years for a reduction in duty on wines and liqueurs (currently at 2.14 euros per liter, compared to 0.54 euro per liter for natural sweet wines and 0.03 euro per liter for Martini), and for the last two years the committee’s producers have only been paying one quarter of the duty to the State with the remainder placed in a frozen account. The Pineau committee is currently in negotiations with the Finance ministry and has proposed paying the next duty in full while retaining, for the time being, the frozen bank account.

HACCP and tracability : software houses sharpening up their offers

"Astrolabe" was presented to about ten wine growers from the cognac area. It is able to handle the production tracability and the HACCP method (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) which will be required by law on 01/01/2005. Another tracability software program, aimed specifically at the production of cognac which, unlike Astrolabe, does not handle HACCP, is also being developed at L & M Informatique at Saint-Laurent-de-Cognac.
