Christophe Gagnerault, a barman from Normandy, has won the cognac cocktails competition organized by the BNIC with a mixture of passion fruit liqueur, apple juice, cinnamon syrup and tonic.

The BNIC cognac national inter-professional office, after recently appointing Aziz Allam as its director for legal, economic and fiscal affairs, has also recruited Didier Vassor to head the "age control" service and Céline Rayer as a business counsel.
Regroupement dans les vins de pays charentais

Au cours d’une AG commune, le Syndicat des vins de pays charentais, l’Association de restructuration du vignoble et le Comité de promotion des vins ont décidé de s’associer afin de mettre sur le marché un produit de qualité. En six ans, 1.700 hectares de cognac ont été convertis pour la production de vins de pays, qui atteint désormais 2.700 hectares.

The Barmen’s Association of France is organizing a cognac-based cocktails competition on 2 February at the BNIC on the theme of "An invitation to travel".
Rémy Cointreau : slight increase in turnover

The Rémy Cointreau wines and spirits group recorded growth of 0.6 % in turnover during the first nine months of fiscal 2003-2004 at 702.9 million euros. Turnover of cognac rose by 0.8 % to 252.3 million and business is still strong in China and the United States.

In 2003, the share price of several listed companies from the Charente, specializing in wines and spirits, rose sharply, such as Marie Brizard (Aigre) +77.9 % to 72.05 euros and Pernod-Ricard (Martell and Bisquit cognacs) +19.38 % to 88.15 euros. On the other hand, shares of Oeneo (corks and barrels, Cognac and Jonzac) fell by 40.28 % to 2.4 euros and Rémy Cointreau fell by 12.46 % to 26 euros.
Cognac : 128 million bottles sold

In 2003, 128 million bottles of cognac were sold. Shipments rose by 3.7 %. 77 % of world sales are shared by Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Martell and Courvoisier.
Increased figures for cognac

Last November the BNIC published figures of purchases showing an increase in 2003. Sales in France are falling, exports to foreign markets have risen, as in the US (+2.9 %), the United Kingdom (+8.5 %), Singapore (+76.5 %) and China (+60 %).
