This year the Ban des Bonnes Chauffes, organized by the distillers’ association, took place in Saintes and attracted 5,000 spectators. The aim of this event is to make cognac and its producers better known.

With the harvest over, the estimated average yield this year is estimated to be 92 hl/h with a pure alcohol content between 8.8 and 9.2°. There are wide variations between vineyards, ranging from 45 hl/h to 120 hl/h.

Raynal : closure on 31/12

The 42 employees at Raynal (brandy, cognac) held a demonstration on 21 October. The management of William Grant have indicated that their factory is to close on 31 December. William Grant made a profit of 5.5 million euros last year. The Scottish group has already put its property holdings in Cognac up for sale (17,000m²).

SVG and SVBC join forces

Never give up hope : the SVG and the SVBC, the two winegrowers’ union in the cognac sector ; have joined forces in the Fédération des viticulteurs producteurs de cognac (cognac wine producers federation), following negotiations to divide up the seats on the committee of the ADG Association for the defense and management of the cognac appellation.
