Eaux-de-vie market in Angoulême

A market for eaux-de-vie is being organized on Saturday 3 November, on the Champs de Mars square in Angoulême, by the SGV Cognac and the distillers’ association.

Cognac : how far will the upturn go ?

Cognac achieved sales worth 1.5 billion euros in 2006 (159.4 million bottles shipped worldwide over 12 months, with increases in sales of +71.4% in China and +38.9% in Russia). However, the current harvest is giving low yields. SO is focusing on the growth of cognac while CL features the tasting committee at Hennessy.

Morose harvest

Harvesting the ugni blanc grapes began this week in the Cognac area. The yield is lower than expected with an average of 90 hectoliters per hectare (30% less than usual).

Martell expands its storage capacity.

The Martell cognac house is going to invest 13 million euros in the construction of four new storehouses (which represents 103,860 hectoliters of eaux-de-vie). The new facilities should be ready by spring 2008.

Cognac harvest : start now and waste no time. The latest readings from the BNIC viticultural station show that it is necessary to begin the harvest without delay. In addition, the average weight of grape bunches is very low this year (the average regional yield is only 90hl/hectare).
